How to Make Coffee the Roberts Way
Now That's the Ticket

OK, so... this is your friendly neighborhood Roberts web guy. I've just finished working with NetMedia One to bring you this improved site design and more features and you know what I'm going to do now? That's right, have a nice cup of black coffee.

It's a little known fact outside of Roberts' downtown that this website is, in fact, run solely on coffee. So, in honor of that fact, I'd like to share with you how to create a cup of coffee like I do here at Roberts. Sure, you could just rely on Starbucks like so many Americans, but once you develop a real, solid caffeine-addiction it helps to be able to brew a good cup of the dark one yourself.

Step 1 OK, to get started, you need beans. No, not grinds. Beans. We'll make the grinds. I like a good, dark, bold blend myself, but it's all about enjoyment so get whatever kind of roast makes you happiest and a grinder. Keep the beans in the fridge or freezer and grind as you need. I like to grind my coffee to a slightly coarse powder, although recommended for drip brewing is usually just a bit coarser than that.

Step 2 Brewing. Drip brewing, anyway, since that's the easiest to do in an office. The better the water the better off you are, but I understand availability and its ensuing compromises fine. The sides of coffee pots are marked in multiples of 2, but let's be honest, each of those is really just one cup of coffee. So, that's the defintion I'm using for the rest of this article. For ratios I use one heaping tablespoon of grinds per cup of coffee to start. Then, for up to three cups, I add one extra measure. Over three cups I add two extra measures. Jody would tell you that you need two heaping tablespoons per cup, but I think that makes the coffee too sour once it starts cooling down.

Step 3 Next, enjoy. I read once about a drink Hemmingway invented, and part of his instructions including drinking three-four of them slowly. I like that. Properly enjoying coffee the Roberts way involves quantity, not just quality. And, I still insist the best way is black, any other way covers up that wonderful coffee complexity, but if you must adulterate it do so responsibly. So drink up, and drink a toast with me as we continue to push this site to be ever better for you, our customers and our family.
